An introduction to mineralogy
at any age can stimulate a life-long interest, and among students
it can often lead to otherwise unimagined, stimulating careers
in science-based fields such as chemistry, environmental sciences,
material science or geology.
The Institute is evaluating and
formulating educational programs that draw teachers into exciting
earth science programs that they, in turn, can transmit to
their students, beginning the cycle of learning and interest
that will breed the next generation of collectors and researchers.
A significant part
of the Institutes outreach effort in this regard
is the donation of mineral specimens to schools whose
educators participate in the Institutes learning
programs. Collector support of this effort is eagerly
sought.
